Founder Rui Li
My path to becoming the proud owner of Top2 Renovation has been as distinctive as the work we do. My professional life began as a science teacher, but in 2018, I took a significant turn that led me to where I am today. My journey in property and building commenced when my wife and I bought our first home together – a century-old villa brimming with character but in need of some tender loving care.
That summer, we poured our energy into renovating the villa.
Although my skills in carpentry were just budding, this experience planted a seed. I decided to leave the comfort of teaching to start a new chapter in building. I believe the essence of successful building and renovation lies in good design and methodology, underpinned by a team of professionals who share a commitment to precision and drive. My learning has been shaped by the outstanding tradespeople I've had the privilege of working with, both in the past and present.
To me, a house is more than a structure; it's a home to those who live in it, and like us, it needs to be maintained. I've had the opportunity to improve many homes in various ways – from crafting new bathrooms and kitchens to installing double-glazed windows, new lining, and fresh paint. Each of these projects has not only enhanced the homes but also brought comfort and joy to the residents. A well-maintained house offers warmth and enjoyment for many generations, and this is the reason why I do what I do.
The Crew
Joining Rui in his mission to transform houses into cherished homes are his two apprentices – the unsung heroes of Top2 Renovation. These budding craftsmen bring a fresh, enthusiastic energy to the team, and are often found measuring twice (and cutting once!) under Rui's watchful eye. They're learning that building is as much about precision and skill as it is about knowing which end of the screwdriver to use. With a knack for occasionally misplacing tools but never their sense of humor, they add a lively spirit to our projects.

Adam - Qualified Builder
Adam has been with Top2Renovation since the very beginning. Now a qualified builder, he continues to refine his craft and bring skill and dedication to every project. Outside of work, Adam enjoys karate, driving, and the occasional international adventure.
Tony - Licensed Builder
Tony explored several different professions before beginning his building career in the 1990s, where he trained alongside Jeremy. He has been building ever since, with decades of hands-on experience. In his spare time, Tony enjoys hunting, fishing, and taking on personal projects.
Jeremy - Qualified Builder
Jeremy has over 35 years of building experience. He completed his pre-trades training at Otago Polytechnic in the 1990s before undertaking his apprenticeship. Over the years, he has worked across Australia and Europe, gaining a wealth of knowledge and skills. Now settled back in Dunedin, Jeremy has joined Top2Renovation as a contractor. Outside of work, he enjoys fishing, boating, and working on his own home.
Keri - Apprentice
Keri graduated from the pre-trades course in 2024 and has been gaining valuable work experience ever since. Alongside his passion for building, Keri is a talented singer who has won multiple awards in Mandarin pop music competitions.
Dani - Apprentice
Danny is the youngest member of the team. He graduated from the Otago Polytechnic pre-trades course in 2024 and is now completing his building apprenticeship. In his spare time, Danny enjoys playing basketball and helping out at his family’s takeaway shop.
